The shot quality thing...
Thing is, Fleury has played 8 seasons in the leauge and has put up a clearly above-average season once and that wasn't even a full season, a 35 game stint in 2007-08. Do people think MAF has played behind a bottom five defensive forward and defensive man group every year of his career?
Something to chew on here.
2003-04-JS Aubin was clearly better than MAF. MAF put almost same numbers as Andy Chiodo.
2005-06-MAF is terrible but better than the back-ups.
2006-07-Jocelyn Thibault puts up slightly better numbers than MAF.
2007-08-MAF's best year, Conklin puts up similar numbers.
2008-09-MAF clearly outperforms Danny Sabourin.
2009-10-MAF puts almost exact same numbers as Johnson.
2010-11-Johnson puts up slightly better numbers than MAF.
2011-12-MAF clearly is better than back-ups.
That kind of evidence just can't be hand-waved away. 3 times MAF is clearly better than back-up (though 1 of those seasons he was just less terrible than competition), every other season is a toss up.
His playoff numbers speak for themselves.
I rest my case on MAF as facing shot quality that makes his super saves count for more.
