Boyle does a lot for this team beyond scoring points. I don't think he had a miserable season at all--more like expectations were too high by some fans. It's the same with Prust maybe to a lesser extent. They are good third line players who do a lot of little things and a lot of the dirty work that makes teams successful--and the Rangers were very successful this year even if some players offensive production wasn't as good as hoped--and we can throw Dubinsky into that mix too.

Boyle should be a good playoff player. Playoffs are about grinding and playing with grit. He's got the size and is a good enough skater and has some hand skills. Playoffs are about attrition and wearing other teams down. 1994 would have never happened without the mucking of guys like Noonan, Matteau, Nemchinov, Kocur etc. They might not have put up a lot of numbers but they won a lot of puck battles giving more skilled players more time of possession.
