Since this team needs to think future, I think picking this kid up and putting him on a line with Juneau, where he gets a lot of ice time would help.
The future line up with him:
Kastystsyn Koivu Zednik
Ribeiro Higgins Perezhogin
Hossa Plekanec Balej
Begin Malhotra Bulis
He could one day turn into one of the best covering forwards in the game, I know the speed is there, and the potential. I( am not sure, if it was Gainey who traded for him in the first place, but there could be something there!
Gainey did *not* have a direct hand in acquiring Malhotra.
He had stepped down as GM, took on the role of "consultant"
about 2-3 months before Dallas acquired him. In fact, it's
unlikely that Gainey was even consulted on that trade, as
he was spending a lot of time with his wife during that period
since she was dying of cancer.
I'm sure Malhotra is a nice guy, and it does look like he
was rushed to the NHL much too early. I do remember watching
him in the Memorial Cup in his draft year, and the guy was a force! A trip to the minors is probably best for him, to determine if he can ultimately succeed as an NHL pro.
