The real question is the pairings. Timonen and Coburn are our only reliably useful defenseman. Carle can be ok, but needs to be paired with someone who can pick up at least 55% of the burden.
I almost think you have to construct pairings based on a combination of size and speed to protect against matchups on the road:
Timonen-Coburn (eat your Wheaties, boys; it'll be a long night).
No idea on the last two--I hate Kubina playing the extra minutes, but putting him with Gus seems a recipe for disaster.
Honestly. Forwards need to back-check like they haven't all series, or this could be a train wreck.
Get out of this game with a W, and you buy perhaps a week for Mez and Grossman to get right. Lose, and we have a game 6 where things are likely to be just as dicey.
EDIT: I see Meltzer has Gus-Carle and Lilja-Kubina. I'm not sure. On the road? Malkin's size against Gus-Carle is a disaster; Crosby-Dupuis's speed against Kubina-Lilja is a disaster.
...someone make me feel better about this?
I'd rather have Timonen with Carle and Coburn with Kubina, and not have anyone else play unless absolutely necessary.
Get the first goal and go all Tampa Bay on them.
Also, I was joking about Talbot.
EDIT: New plan. Shoot the puck at the Pen's faces. We need to level the playing field.
