This is not about more tax or unfair subsidies - it is just about where tax is levied on income earned - which is a very complex issue that governments care about and nobody else does so long as their total tax bill does not change.

The real issue is whether or not the Alberta government should be collecting special amounts and dedicating them to teams in the first place - but that issue was won as soon as the Flames/Oilers showed that about 22 teams in the States are subsidized by government levies, tax breaks or whatever.

The losers, interesting enough, are actually in Montreal which is why it is still an issue there - the Quebec government and that of the City do not have either the money or the interest to subsidize the Canadiens.
