Is that moronic? Yes. But that's the rule.
You can essentially pull a Morton Anderson, and kick the snot out of the puck, as long as it hits the goalie before going in... and... GOAL!!!! New Jersey Devils fans learned of the moronic aspect of that rule earlier this season.
A kicked puck that deflects off the body of any player of either team (including the goalkeeper) shall be ruled no goal.
A kicked puck that deflects off the stick of any player
(excluding the goalkeeper’s stick)
shall be ruled a good goal.
A goal will be allowed when an attacking player kicks the puck and the puck deflects off his own stick and then into the net.
Sounds to me like it's irrelevant that Lundqvist gets his stick on it after Neil (attempted) to kick the puck. No?
It's just pain.
