Downtown hotels off the top of my head:

Radisson (Never been)
Mariott (used to be a Radisson, now more fancy, price probably went up. has revolving restauraunt at top)
Delta (decent, has a pool/waterslide)
Minto Place (nice rooms)
Les Suites (don't remember)
Novotell right beside Les Suites, Byward Market, Rideau Centre)
Chateau Laurier (again, unnecessarily expensive (but cool to say you stayed at))
Best western (is close-ish to downtown)
Lord Elgin (again probably expensive, but I remember the breakfast being good )

There are others that aren't huge chains, (and are closer to the tourist part of Downtown than, say, the Delta, Radisson, and Minto but I don't remember them, and haven't stayed at them. The ones I mentioned are all decent as I remember, but we had a family of five, and we couldn't all fit in a Novotell room in the usual fashion.

Anyways, there's lots of options I'm sure.

EDIT: If my memory serves me correctly, one of these smaller downtown hotels is a former jail (museum) where you can sleep in a cell, which sounds cool if you're into that sort of thing. Then you can tell your relatives you went to jail
