The Caps knocking off the Bruins is fairly significant however keeping in mind that the Bruins are not really a young team and they had the shortest summer of any other team apart from Vancouver and that the first half of this season they were world beaters again but their second half was not really very good and losing Horton hurt them and Thomas looked very ordinary at times. To me that was a team that was sucking wind by the end of the regular season. Really it was like they hit the wall in January and it's not surprising that eventually that was going to happen. I don't know if there will ever be another dynasty simply because the odds are so stacked against any team repeating. Boston might be back on track next year.

There's another factor--of the four Eastern teams left--three of them come from our division which is arguably the most competitive division in the league. Four of the five teams in our division finished with over 100 points. The Caps pretty much underachieved all year long in what might be the weakest division in the league and made the playoffs on the final weekend. That of itself doesn't necessarily mean that they can't take this series--the Flyers went to the finals two seasons ago with more or less the same scenario.
