simple example: if it's observed that GF/GA happen about, say, 30% more frequently when top line players are on the ice then the formula is adjusted to include that, so that it doesn't end up saying "the guy with 180 combined GF/GA in 80 games must have played exactly twice as often as the guy with 90 in 80 games".
So in other words, you say factor, I say fudge.
