If he doesn't deliver beyond 20 goals/40 points, then he needs to go. Of note, I wouldn't consider a jump to 50 points a break through either. JVR needs to have at least a jump to 70 - 75 points.
John LeClair was also pretty invisible in his firsts years, but then he became a 50 goal scorer. Everything is possible.
