Let's see him put 3 games like that in a row. I am not talking about 4, just 3. History says that he is incapable of it. My sentiments, as they always have been, are that if you are going to skate around on the 4th line and not produce anything that resembles offense from the 4th line, you are better off being Hollweg than Hossa. I think that Renney would be insane to break up the current two lines when Rucinsky is back. IMO, I would like to see Rucinsky on the 3rd line and Hossa not dressed when for the Flyers game.
What can I really say about Rozsival? Yes, he looked good. As he has for the better part of '06. I still believe him to be a product of the system and would rather not resign him to an inflated contract.
Another player that deserves props is Poti. He has been every bit as good as Rozsival has. Both show how a good system can mask issues. His offensive game has all but evaporated and his defense is still not enough to make a living off, but he has minimized his mistakes and has adhered to Renney's system, something I did not think him capable of.
Henke continues to make a very, very strong statement for the Vezina. IMO, his stats are every bit as impressive as Ovechkin's are for forwards. I know that Henke has no shot of winning the Calder,
but I would love for Bettman how they could explain if Henke wins the Vezina, but not the Calder.
Are they saying that a rookie's skater's performance was more impressive than any NHL goalie? And Crosby does not even belong in the Calder conversation anymore. I believe that he will be a superstar in the future, but the battle for the Calder is only about two names right now.
One other thing I keep meaning to mention. What is truly amazing and does not get any attention is that the Rangers are one of the only teams whose GAA has decreased since the prior year. Think of it. From the clutch-and-grab era to the "new" era. Teams, for the most part, have given up more goals this year than last year. Not the Rangers. Defensively, they are that much better than in the past decade. Night and day really. That is a testiment to not only Henke, but also to the system that Renney has installed and has got his players to buy into. From the defensemen to the backchecking wings to the centers who come back and help out on the perimeter.
Kudos to Renney. I know that Ruff & Lavvy are doing great things in Buffalo & Carolina, but the job that Renney has done here (warts and all) is unparalleled, IMO.
Or if Lundqvist won the Calder over Ovechkin while Ovechkin won the Richard. This year is so ridiculous in terms of rookies, mostly thanks to the year off, that its almost like they need a few trophies.
