I'm not even a Met fan, but I'll watch just to hear Darling and Hernandez. They're both knowledgable and sometimes they agree, and sometimes they don't. But it's usually entertaining and informative.
With baseball it's fine. Nothing is going on anyway. Conversation is the most exciting thing you'll get out of a baseball game... well, that and beer.
With hockey it's constant action. Pierre's like, "what do you think about that decision to hold on to the puck instead of passing it, hey Eddie?" And then Eddie's like, "Well... yeah... I see what he was trying to do there... sometime you want to bla bla bla bla..."
In the mean time the teams have gone up and down the ice 5 times. It's distracting. I also don't like when MSG will have Messier or whomever in the booth and they'll start discussing irrelevant crap while play is in progress. "So... your training for a marathon... tell us all about it... oh wait hold on a second the Ranger just got scored against... ok, so how about that marathon?"
I guess I'm from the tennis school of commentary. Minimal chatter and focus on what's going on for the most part.
