He's in the driver's seat, though, because there aren't many defencemen available. You have Lidstrom going year to year, Pronger pretty much done, Kimmo may play or may not and suddely there's interest. This is his time to get the big contract as a 27 year old.
The other thing with attracting free agents who want to win, are they going to look at Bryz's unmovable 8 more years contract and say they don't think they can do it? We don't know what they're saying privately but of course they are going to say all the right things. Who knows if he feels this way.
