If riding a hot goalie to the ECF on a 14-12 record while being dominated is the mark of a great coach, then clearly you must also believe that Jacques Martin is a great coach (and Hunter has yet to reach the ECF). Except Martin didn't have a team that had won its conference twice in a row and its division four straight times, and actually gave the most icetime to his best players.
I have zero problems with him playing his grinders more than his star players, when they have the lead. I've seen Ovechkin make numerous dumb plays in the neutral zone when the rags are coming on a transition rush. Backstrom has also struggled with his backchecking a lot in the playoffs. Semin is actually playing hard at both ends of the ice.
