Expanding on my 'neither': I'm all for quality>>Quantity but Max and Subby are quality players as well. Not at the level of Malkin but the habs should be more concerned developing quality players at a lower price than paying the premium for already developed players.

Trades of this nature, while sometimes useful, tend to be a perfect example of buying high when it's much better to make proper deals and have proper support staff(development) that does not hinder the direction of a team.

I'm more of a fan of buying low. For instance, guys like Chris Stewart don't come with same price tag they once had and could be solid additions for us at a lower price. They may provide us with a need and a future core piece. I don't necessary mean C Stewart specifically but just an example.
