GM Moves: demote Gomez to AHL.
Re-Sign: Price, Subban, Eller, Moen, White, Staubitz, and Geoffrion.
Trade: Tomas Plekanec to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for 2012 first round pick (sixth overall).
Trade one of Diaz or Weber for assets
Sign UFAs: Matt Carkner, David Jones, Chris Kelly, Zenon Konopka
Draft: Alex Galchenyuk third overall, and one of Jacob Trouba, Dumba, or Grigorenko at sixth. I prefer Trouba.
Cole - Eller - Gionta
Bourque - Kelly - Leblanc
Moen - Konopka - White
Ex - Staubitz, Geoffrion
Markov - Emelin
Gorges - Subban
Kaberle - Carkner
Ex - Diaz
Probably a long year but it allows the Habs to develop guys like Eller and to acquire some serious pieces that can develop in the minors.
Our blueline would be fantastic with pieces like Tinordi, Trouba, Ellis, Dietz and Beaulieu coming up and in two years should be developing.
Draft guys with size, talent and character. I'd look at guys like Wilson, Frk, Thrower, Kerdiles, Sutter, etc.
With the 2013 draft coming more of the same. Draft with purpose, get some great talent, hope to get a top 3 pick. Look at trading some guys like Gionta, Markov, and Cole at the deadline to acquire assets and picks. The team should be contending within two seasons with a mixture of veterans and high end young talent.
