BUT, the name of Phanuef casts the shawdow. Poile must be hitting his head against the wall every times he thinks of it. We we're the first to pick a defenseman in the '03 draft and we had our selection of the big three (Phanuef, Suter, Coburn). I remember the articles comparing the big three, as it's was known that we were likely going for a defenseman.

But, atleast we got Weber and Klein the 2nd rd that year.
He's probably hitting his head and half thanking his lucky stars. We could have ended up with Coburn. And while he's no loser, he's not what Suter is. I think they went safe with Suter. He was considered to be the rock pick. Hockey rat who was in excellent physical shape, had all the tools, nothing super special, but no weaknesses either.
