It is worth noting that Gillis has done more for the franchise than just his trades and FA signings. His continued lobbying to the league has benefited the Canucks with a better travel schedule. Currently, he is pushing for an increase to the leagues offense which would also likely benefit the Canucks as they are a fast, skilled team. He also probably had a hand in refs calling more obstruction near the end of the season.
I also like how he handled the Burrows CBC fiasco with the mini boycott. Would other GMs have done the same?
Like other posters have eluded, Gillis is more than an architect of the team. He positively addresses lots of off ice issues as well.
