If Holmgren can secure a 40+ goal scorer, this offense on this team should be prolific and even more deadly. With that being said, having seven to eight 30 goal scorers in the lineup isn't a bad thing (and you look at that lineup and there's more than enough fire power there to put up those kinds of numbers).
I think you and I are in agreement that defense is a must.
Outside of Timonen and Grossmann, there's still a lot of question marks with the D. For instance, which Coburn is going to show up when the season starts? Is it going to be the wonderful defensive shut down guy from the playoffs or the inconsistent regular season performer? Is Meszaros going to be the consistent 30+ point guy again or is the Meszaros who struggled mightily? We know Pronger isn't a discussion at this point and Carle seems to have one foot out the door. Holmgren needs to make this area a priority this off season.
As for goaltending, we all know that since January, the starter put up a record of 18-8-4 with a 2.06 GAA and .948 Save Percentage, so that shouldn't be an issue either.
What do you think about going after Alexander Sulzer in free agency? I've been promoting this idea ever since the Flyers got eliminated. I see Sulzer as a player who's on the cusp of blossoming into a top-4 defenseman, and he can be had for relatively cheap too. Thought he was really impressive for Buffalo after coming over as the "other guy" in the Hodgson trade. Would be a super shrewd move on Homer's part to get him.
