Just a guess, but in lacrosse(I play it, so I can comment on it and not the other sport where picks are prominent, basketball), you have to stand completely still. I'd imagine that it would be hard to judge for hockey whether a player was still or just slowly gliding.

Also, very few guys wear full shields, I would guess that people would complain about the possibility of running into someone and getting a stick or other equipment underneath a visor and the player getting hurt.

Probably some things I'm forgetting, but I am completely guessing here.
