Value is somewhat there...but from who's perspective is this helping? Why make this trade? Yes, Capitals would get their 2nd line center, but also an unnecessary (but great) defensive asset whilst giving up arguably their best defenseman in Carlson. Also, we already need to fill a hole in the 1/2RW from Semin's departure. If Ovechkin leaves, we then need to fill 1LW and then 1/2RW with stars, which won't happen. I remember hearing that Boston needs a scoring winger, but Ovechkin's untouchable from the Caps' perspective, and Carlson is as unnecessary to your defense as Hamilton is to ours.
