Sorry to burst your bubble, but Vanderbilt is a teaching hospital, and so most of the surgery done there would be done by residents, i.e. surgeons in training... they are supervised by very smart surgeons, but typically they are not the ones with their hands on the patients.

If you need a complex surgery that doesn't get done a lot(like a transplant or a complicated cancer surgery), then your best bet is a University hospital type setting.. but if you want a fairly routine surgery(like a knee repair), you actually want to have it done by a surgeon in private practice who does a buttload of them with his or her own hands and has to get consistent good results to keep up the referrals...
