Comes out to about $66,400,000. If the cap goes down Detroit would be royally screwed. Howard, Filppula, Smith, and Nyquist will all be looking for raises in the 2013 offseason. Cleary and Lidstrom coming off the books plus a possible cap raise could cover all those raises, but you really have to ask if that's a risk worth taking.
And $4M for Lidstrom is being generous. Either Detroit's gonna give him what he's worth or he's gonna take whatever cut is necessary to go for the guys they want.
So it's possible, but there are risks. The best thing Detroit could do to drop that cap a little is dangle Quincey out and see if anybody would sign him, while bringing Smith up to the team to fill Quincey's spot.
Lidstrom at 4mil? Give me a break.
