We had to play the system that Torts put in because we have such a dearth of offensive talent and size amongst our forwards and as talented as we are on defense, we lack size and physicality there as well.
The main reason that Stepan has been productive in his first 2 regular seasons is because of his high hockey IQ and his passing ability, no other reason. There is nothing remarkable about him as a player; he lacks size, physicality, and he's a lousy skater with a very mediocre shot. Unless he gets stronger and improves his skating a lot, he will continue to run out of gas at the end of the season and his game will never thrive in the grueling format of the playoffs, much like Gaborik who's also been a bust in the playoffs thruout his career as well.

Hagelin will be fine because of his elite skating skills and hockey smarts but he has no business being on the 1st line; he's more a 3rd line player going forward.

Zuccarello?? He's got skill but he's smart enough to know that his overall game just isn't good enough to be successful in the NHL and so goodbye to him.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we aren't as close to getting to a SCF as many of the posters around here think we are. The senile old man (Savior) needs to get off his ass, be creative and upgrade this roster so that it is bigger, more productive and much harder to play against in the playoffs.
I think Stepan and Hagelin's regression at the end of the season had more to do with them being fresh out of college and not adjusted to an 82+ game season.
