Due to my superstitious nature, I spent years focusing on my pre-game rituals, doing mental preparation, and trying to get "pumped up" for games; I thought that's just what you're supposed to do.

The problem is, I am a really laid back guy and that's just not me. I would hit the ice for warm-ups and I was already tapping into my adreneline reserves. I would be physically and mentally fatigued after just a couple of shifts; way to early for heavy legs and poor decision making.

One day it just dawned on me that since I have a more laid back disposition I should try to relax before games and try to not think about it too much before I hit the ice. I started listening to songs with a good groove to them rather than something real up-tempo.

I saw positive results immediately. Obviously, you know your body and your disposition better than anybody, but if you're not someone who gets hyped up real easily, don't waste your energy on trying to get to that level.
