If you've got a hard-on for a certain player because you think he's the cat's meow and plays a position of need within the organization then you do what it takes to move up and get him. Otherwise trust your scouts and take the best talent with the best chance to succeed. For all the dung I've flung in the Stars' direction about drafting a goaltender in the 1st round I at least respect that they drafted the player they thought was the best talent.

The ONLY time you should ever draft for position is if all else is equal.
I am optimistic that these statements are mind games like in the NFL draft, but it doesn't take an NHL GM to see that the team needs quality C prospects.
