The Rangers don't need 20M. They would rather take on money than give out talent in a deal like this. THe biggest asset the Caps will get is relief from Jagr's contract. If they got a serviceable player (like Kasparaitis or Cater) I think they would be ecstatic.
I will tell you, as someone in New York and follows the Rangers pretty carefully, Slats' job is not in danger.
Perrenial losers for many many years? When was the last time the Caps won the Cup?
What Ranger mentality? The one where they gave up Fata and three mediocre players for Kovalev?
Who cares about the Capitals finding the deal palatable? They have no leverage here.
Exactly.Cap fans have to realize that anybody taking Jagr is doing them a huge favor and the Caps are facing take it or leave it situations where they have zero leverage.
It's time for the Caps to just tear it all down and start from scratch.Jagr doesn't want to be there and they have to rid themselves of him regardless of the cost, Bondra is winding down, Ollie is getting up there, Gonchar will likely walk as a UFA and while Lang has played well he'll have little to work with once Jagr is gone and possibly Gonchar as well so they should also see if they can get somebody like detroit to take his contract off their hands.
