Shoving a guy in the minors until he's ready may be deemed a "patient" approach and fine, I get that but they cultivate no one. Their development success is brutal.
Detroit's success comes from getting players through free agency, draft or trade that they like and keeping them as long as possible.
They are fortunate they got Datysuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom.
Hell, when they drafted Yzerman they were pissed they didn't get lafontaine.
They have a strong management team, don't get me wrong, but in the context of player development, they are a joke IMO.
