Therrien will do good if he has all the GM's support and if the GM gives him the players that fit his philosophy (work hard every night, being accountable, getting the max out of everyone, etc.). But it would be hell and spoil the whole team very quickly if some players don't fit that mold or can't stand a coach breathing down their neck. In other words, there is more risk of friction, controversy and distraction with Therrien. With JM, this is less a problem. JM is more focused on the system than on the players. He would rarely confront or challenge a player. He would find another player or way that does what he wants than yell at the one who doesn't.

There is more upside with Therrien, IF AND ONLY IF everything's working well (because he promotes the right philosophy and values required for the greatest success).
