If a Jagr-to-NYR deal goes down (and it indeed is nothing more than rumor at this point), I'm willing to bet this much:

The player personnel that Washington receives will make Pittsburgh's acquisition of Beech, Sivek and Lupaschuk in the summer of '01 look like an absolute heist for the Pens, in comparison.

For Washington, the entire value of any Jagr deal will be measured virtually entirely in the fact that they were able to rid themselves of the player and (at least in part) his contract. Talent coming back is really not a factor here, whatsoever, as the Caps have no leverage in any trade talks. In fact, the more players/contract$ they are forced to take on from their trading partner in such a deal, the less attractive the deal is from their standpoint.

When speculating on potential trade parameters, best to refer to one's history books. For the most part, this is Bure / Kovalev redux.
