I like Mason a lot - and I agree he should have had more of the load, for Pavelec's sake - but he's a guy who will be lucky to have a job in the NHL at all next year. Teams won't be lining up for a guy in his late 30's who had 20 starts last year.

Most teams are going from within for back-ups, and there are way too many goalies available on the trade market. Given the last few Cup winners (before Quick) I think teams realize they don't need to spend big money on goalies to win.

It's never been tougher to be a veteran backup.
