He's still very much capable of scoring goals, especially on a better team like the Rangers.
The only downside is his cap-hit of 7.5 is prohibitive, but it's only for one year after this season, which is a lot better than Nash's 7.8 until the end of time for a guy who's a 60 point player for most of his career.
Heatley has scored 100+ points twice, and has broken 70 points 6 times. Broken 80 points 5 times.
Have you watched Heatley the last two seasons? They were not "down" years. He's a player who has been on the decline and has a massive cap hit.
If he's capable of scoring goals on a good team like the Rangers, as you say, why couldn't he score in San Jose, especially when it mattered most? 5 goals in 32 career playoff games with the Sharks. Yea, that's the type of scorer we should add to help us win a Cup. Come on. This is a move the Rangers got burned on in the past, bringing in declining high paid scorers. They don't work out.
