Michalek's $4 million per season salary is unworkable, then what exactly *is* workable for Garth Snow?

If I'm reading your posts correctly, his criteria (or one you're ascribing to him) is:
-must be a legitimate top four D
-must be signed to a long term deal (ie. more than 5 years)
-must make less than, what, $4 million per year? $3 million per year?

Each one of Ballard,Martin and Michalek have 3 yrs on their deal,at $4m-$5m per. Each is playing disappointing hockey.Maybe their play and the lengths of their contracts are the turnoffs for Snow.

Staples writes that Snow will look for like another Wiz situation:a team with a bad, short term contract.

I honestly think your criteria is a bit unrealistic. Top four defensemen make over $4 million a year. The only ones that don't are guys still on their ELC deals, or their first RFA deals. And those guys tend to be highly coveted by their own team, and would cost an overpayment to acquire (ie. Subban, Pietrangelo, etc.).

With SJ trading for Stuart, the press is saying Murray could be the odd man out.
Darcy Regher says he wants the Sabres to get bigger/tougher.Is he interested in the NYI's Lee + 2nd for Leopold who's a ufa in 2013?

Both make in the $2.5m-$3m range.

Snow's top 4 addition does not have to be an elite defenseman. Was Erhoff elite when Snow tried getting him?

If that truly is the criteria Snow has for who he will target, then the Isles will be going into next season with guys like Staios, Jurcina, and Eaton again taking up their 4, 5, and 6 spot in their defense
Aside from bringing in a top 4,the NY press says the Isles want Staios back and will have at least 1 of the Bridgeport young defenseman on the roster.

De Haan,Donovan,Ness or Katic
