Hockey is not a large market sport in the New York area. Baseball, basketball and football are. Msg lost nine million dollars from it's sports teams last season and expected to lose even more this year.

The Rangers do not come close to selling out weeknights unless a rival team is in the building and that's with the payroll where it is and all the big names. They do not get more than an article a day in the papers on a average game day.

I think the Texas Rangers have had more backpages here than the New York Rangers in the local papers this season.

As for Brooks's gossip? The Washington paper sure took care of that and the credible hockey papers in NYC (Times, News, Newsday) did not write a word about any of this....
