You can regularly mine NHL-quality goalies in the 5th-7th rounds if you pick one every year or two, in the late rounds, if you're prepared to wait for them to mature. Especially if you pick euro goalies: you can just leave them in Europe to develop at their own pace. So many "surprise" late round goalies find success because they're not at all rushed, and are allowed to play 5 years on their own, away from the NHL parent club, and aren't pressured to be saviors (IMO, at least). Much more upside picking a goalie with a 6th-7th rounder than a skater.
