I'm actually of the mindset that I'd rather take a skater with a decent chance of being a NHLer down the road as opposed to just taking a goalie just for the sake of takign a goalie. For example, we've got guys like Derek Grant, Mark Borowiecki, and Andre Petersson already playing in the AHL and are legit prospects likely to play in the NHL somewhere down the road. Those are assets. Assets can be used to acquire a goalie like we did with Bishop. Its just too difficult to evaluate most goalies at age 18 and the draft is too much of a crapshoot when it comes to that position. Plus, there are always so many good FA goalies that there's just not much of a point. You could completely ignore goalies on your draft board for a decade and still have good depth on your roster (Anderson, Bishop) in goal with just average pro scouting.
