McDonagh was drafted in 2007. He became a legit top-pairing guy in 2011-12.

Staal was drafted in 2005. He became a legit top-pairing guy in 2008-09.

Del Zotto was drafted in 2008. He became a legit top-4 in 2011-12.

Girardi's CHL career ended in 2005. He became a legit top-4 in 2008-09.

See a trend?

There isnt a single forward at 28 who would have been able to step in and help the offense this season, next season and the season after that. The only guys with a chance are going to stay in Europe or Russia for three more years.

Outside of Erixon, the d-men in Hartford last season were Bell, Redden, Parlett, Klassen, Nightingale and Valentenko.

Putrid.

We dont have depth on defense. There's no guarantee Schultz signs here. Adding Skjei to Erixon and McIlrath to out non-NHL blue line is a great thing.
