I think what a lot of people are overlooking here is that the Sens probably had the best chance of any NHL team not only to see Cody play, but also to have access to his previous coaches, his current teammates and watch his development from a couple years back.

Not to say other NHL scouts don't do their job, but seeing more and more of a guy who's really talented will cement them in your mind as truly the pick of the litter, see: the way every single fan from any specific team slightly overvalues their prospects and players, just from having more exposure to them than anyone else. Conversely, we also tend to hate on players who make mistakes over and over more than certain other teams, because we see all of them repeatedly.

I'm also not saying Ceci was overvalued, just that we had more of a chance to monitor him than many other teams, and that may have lead to us ascribing certain un-scoutable tendencies to him that we didn't see in a lot of other players, due to how many had to be scouted.
