For all that BM has done to get the Sens back on track, I have to admit reading a quote from him concerning why he didn't pull the trigger on Michalek really irks me.

Murray told Shero: "unless you take an equal contract back, I canít do it".

He then goes on to say in the article: "We have to find a veteran defenceman before the summer is over, but thatís it" and "Iím going to look at the free-agent list on July 1, and if thereís something that appeals to us, weíll make the call".

The Sens have only 4 of the 7 defensemen they had last season under contract. With so much cap space available, what was the big deal in taking on 300k more than Kuba's contract? Why did BM insist on dumping Gonchar in return? Going after a veteran D on the UFA market this summer will likely cost him close to that anyway. The only way to makes sense of his decision is to assume that he's going after a big prized D that no one has pegged going to Ottawa.
