I think what really stands out here is the prospects ages.
I remember discussion with another poster about whether or not the Kings would continue the idea of drafting guys who were passed over in previous drafts. I was of the mentality that it would continue given the results so far.
I did not think it would be this prevalent though. Four of six picks this year had passed through the draft at least once, and of the two that didn't one missed being draft eligible last year by two days (Nikolay Prokhorkin) while the other was a kid who was a potential top five pick 12 months ago that dropped to pick number 211 and was almost as great of a low risk, huge reward tpye of pick as there is (Nick Ebert).
DL continues to set a precident regarding the drafting of older players and it's working so far. We haven't set the world on fire with our selections and, outside of Prokhorkin and Ebert, are unlikely to again this year, but I think we will look back on this draft as a very solid use of picks to bring in a sizeable influx of steady, but largely unflashy, set of players.
For next year, expect a goalie to be picked. DL has picked a goalie every second year starting in 2007 with Rowatt (2007), Berube (2009) and Gibson (2011). I don't count Bernier since that draft was done with a mix of DL and the old Taylor scouting staff. If we go overager route with a goalie, keep an eye on Andrey Makarov from the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL.
