Huh?

$15 million cap space, and that is wihout trading Martin. Some of us speculated that if he could be signed reasonably, Parise and Semin would work well as pickups. The following is a pretty scary lineup:

Semin-Crosby-Parise
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Dupuis
Asham-Vitale-Adams

Letang/Despres
Orpik/Paul Martin/Morrow/Dumoulin
Niskanen/Engelland

That is spending maybe $12.5 of that $15 million on Semin and Parise, leaving $2.5 million for now or trade deadline. Trade Martin and there is $5 million more. With that kind of offense I could care less about the growing pains of the kid defensemen listed above. Other teams would be too busy fishing pucks out of their nets to keep up. If Semin would sign for that, would you all still rather have Suter at another $7.5 million for likely a ten year deal? Like I said before, look at what we have defensively:

Minors:

Simon Despres, Brian Dumoulin, Joe Morrow, Derrick Pouliot, Scott Harrington, Brian Strait, Robert Bortuzzo, Philip Samuelsson, Carl Sneep, Nick D'Agostino, Harrison Ruopp, and Olli Maatta.

Pens:

Kris Letang, Paul Martin, Brooks Orpik, Deryk Engelland, Matt Niskanen, Ben Lovejoy

We lose some of our biggest advantage, blocking all that cheap talent defensively, and do not address our biggest weakness.

Parise + Semin for $12.5 per is better for this team with what prospects we have than Parise + Suter for $15 million for the next ten years
