It's true that that's really the only metric by which we're judging the Habs draft a success. But there also seems to be a general truth that we went looking for forwards with skill (and reasonable size) in a year that placed abnormally low value on those considerations (skilled forwards, especially those 6'0 and under). Thus with our very top pick we were able to get the only center rated in the top ten (and I FIRMLY believe he would have gone early in the first if we hadn't picked him. No way Gally got past Toronto IMO.) Then we were able to grab a winger with enormous upside early in the second round, largely because such an abnormal number of d went in the first.
