Wideman is an improvement over Hannan & Sarich, but that's about it. If the Flames go into the season with Giordano, Wideman & Butler as the top three defensemen, then we'll probably get to see the Flames draft top five for the first time in franchise history.
This. The notion that any top 4 D-man can just replace Bouwmeester is completely absurd. I don't understand how fans don't comprehend how much work he actually puts in every game. He is soft and hasn't had offensive success so far, but he is capable of playing #1 type minutes without embarrassing himself which is more than can be said for any other D-man in our organization.
