The Canucks have never had a true #1 defenseman.
If you're Schultz, imagine becoming that #1 defenseman in a few years. Imagine hoisting the Cup over your head for your hometown team in front of your family that has been fans of the team for quite a while. Imagine lifting the Cup over your head and becoming a hero to your hometown province for bringing the Cup to Vancouver. If winning the Cup is the ultimate satisfaction, winning the Cup for your hometown franchise that never has and being one of the keys to that win just makes winning all the more sweeter. No other franchise offers the opportunity for Schultz to become a franchise legend and hometown hero.
Both Ohlund and Jovo were legit #1 dman in their prime. Both played huge minutes on one of the top d-units in the league playing in every situation. How were they not "true #1"??
Having watched the Canucks religiously since the 70's, I still maintain Ohlund - in his prime - was the franchise's best ever dman.
