My take on Carle, and I feel I speak for most Flyers fans-- he is a #4 defender at best. He is not bad, but the fact is, he frustrates you with less than stellar offensive ability, and the all too frequent brain fart in the D zone.

But when it comes down to it, Carle is a player who can eat a lot of minutes, and will put up 40ish points a year. So even though you'll hate him at times, at the end of the year, you wont be mad that he was on your team.



However-- that is the general view of Carle at $3.5m. Most fans will not go a penny above $4.5m to re-sign him. Unfortunately, he very realistically will command 5+ on the market, so one team will walk away with Matt Carle, but will be extremely disappointed given the price that they will pay.
