Sucks this has to be the case.. i haven't liked any kings goaltending since potvin's dream run... Other than that, the goaltending position in this organization has just been a pile of failures. And now we have 2 really really good goaltenders.
I've always liked bernier and actually have full faith in his capaibilities to be a successful number one. But it makes perfect sense for him to want to thrive elsewhere, it just makes me nervous because I'm not really that excited about the tenders in our system.
Was high on Martin Jones but it looks like his development has stalled, Zatkoff looks promising but nothing really to write home about. The other 2 we drafted relatively high (berube, and gibson) have looked awful in dev camps and after looking at their JR numbers, both having sub 900 sv %'s. Both are still young so there's room to improve i suppose. They aren't anywhere near ready though to even back up.
I wouldn't mind holding on to Bernier til we get the best deal possible. I don't think there's a rush trading him at this point, Goalies get injuried and that could really force a contender to give up the farm for this kid... and it's not out of the question that quick might get hurt. We have good chance at another cup, and if we put all our eggs in the quick basket and if he gets hurt, that's pretty much the season if we don't have bernier there.
