It seems to me that this incident may set a new protocol, where one of the referees or linesman are tasked with collecting the game puck at the end of the game. I mean, if they are going to be there anyway, why not?
Actually, they have been instructed to NOT touch the puck at the end of a cup clinching game. The linesman is the one that collected the OT game winner in the Hawks game and the puck hasn't been seen since.
