More from Bakes ... Iles en route; Laker on radar?
Cornell netminder Andy Iles, 20, enters camp following a busy sophomore season that saw him start (and complete) all 35 games for the Big Red, finishing the year 19-9-7 with a 2.12 goals against average, .919 save percentage. and six shutouts. The 5'9, 180-pounder arrives as a highly decorated amateur, having scored gold (2009 U18) and bronze (2011 U20) medals internationally, while earning NAHL Rookie of the Year and 2010-11 ECAC All-Rookie Team honors along the way. A product of the Syracuse Stars and U.S. National Team Development Program, Iles is very quick, very athletic, and technically sharp. It's fun watching sub-six foot goalies compete and succeed. Iles does just that.

Another name rumored to be on his way for camp is offensive-minded defender Nick Jones of Atlantic Hockey's Mercyhurst College. Clocking in at a solid 6'2, 205 pounds, the Cranberry Township, PA native was the Lakers' top D-man as a sophomore in 2011-12, scoring 10 goals and 24 points, including 6+8 on the PP, while appearing in all 40 games. Scouts like his ability to leave his post and jump into the slot, and trait he displayed when notching a goal, an assist, and a season-high seven shots on goal in a late February win over Canisius. The big shooting righty, who earned 3rd Team All-Conference last season, will serve as one of the team's tri-captains in 2012-13.
