Back-to-back seasons -

2007 Off-Season: Colorado finished the year up 15-2-2 and rumors are rampant about them signing Ryan Smyth. But instead they sign Scott Hannan for a lot of money, and it looked as though they'd lose out on Smyth because of it. But then they sign him too, and with big upgrades to both the front and back end, it looked like they'd be a 3-5 seed with decent cup hopes.

But they were mediocre again, which brings us to...

2008 Off-Season: Forsberg, Brunette, Theodore leave; Francois Giguere responds by signing Toronto buy-outs Darcy Tucker and Andrew Raycroft, and pimps up AHL star TJ Hensick as a player who'll challenge for a top-6 scoring spot. He also signs SEL star Per Ledin.

A year later he's fired, and in one of his last interviews says something along the lines of "I didn't think we were cup favorites, but I thought we'd be in it [playoffs]. Oh, FG.
