I would say it depends on what your options are. If you can't get ice time but once or twice a week then inline will help you get in shape, train many of the same muscles etc. However the mechanics are different ie. different rocker, stopping, transitioning.

I purposely do not own inline skates. I want to become a better ice hockey player so I play ice hockey only.
